Evaluation: How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stage?
Final Cut Pro
We used this software on the macs in order to edit of videos. It was slightly daunting at first using this software as I had never used it before. However, having completed our product I would be happy to use this software again as it achieves a professional product with very few difficulties. The editing was made effortless with this programme as it enabled us to chop and cut bits of footage with great ease.
Photoshop
We used Photoshop to construct our digipak and poster. Having used this software already whilst constructing my music magazine last year, I felt confident using this programme again. However, as we were following the simplistic conventions of the genre, we did not need to use many of the tools Photoshop has to offer as our poster and digipak was quite straight forward.
Survey Monkey
I was made familiar with this website last year after conducting an audience survey for my music magazine. It enables you to create a survey that can be sent through email or be posted on social networking sites or blogs. I was able to use this software with ease in order to acquire audience feedback on both the dance genre and of music video itself. This is a very useful piece of media technology that has been crucial in our research process. I would not hesitate to use this website again.
Slide Share
This website allows you to upload power point presentations on to your blog so they can be downloaded and shared. This website has been useful throughout the evaluation stage of the coursework as I have been able to present my answers in presentation form, using pictures and clips from my video and ancillary products.
Blogger
Blogger has been a completely new technology in itself to me as I used tumblr last year to record my progress. Even though I would reluctant about using this blogging site at first I have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to use.
YouTube
This was a useful piece of online software as it allows users to upload videos from various devices and sources, from mobile phones to good quality cameras. It was vital in the Construction and Research stage as it allowed us to upload current dance music videos to our blogger accounts, such as Feel So Close by Calvin Harris and also Changed the Way You Kiss Me by Example. This also emphasises the fact that Blogger and Youtube have worked hand in hand together in order to produce research which is not just evident by the textual analysis, but has also allowed us to gain this visual element and overall allowed us to produce well rounded research blog posts. It also allowed us to upload our video online, which in turn allowed us to upload it to blogger and also gain feedback from viewers, therefore Youtube has been beneficial at most stages of the production.
